Aloe Vera is a non-binary musician, poet, and organizer that calls central Ohio home. After having put together festivals, protests, and running a diy venue they are invested in grounding their experiences of sharing loving community with the art they create. (Instagram, Twitter, Links)
“Days Pass Strange” or it’s full title “Days Pass Strange When a Nigga Can’t Pay Rent” is about the journey of the will to change and the systems that can prevent growth. Confronted with their own insincerity and toxicity at times Aloe balances what it means to want community while not falling for the traps of a culture of disposability. Framed by real life experiences while organizing for racial justice in 2015-17 and the musicals “RENT” and “Passing Strange” It weaves a narrative about the challenges of overcoming constant racism, evictions, and hospitalizations. The album posits that revolution is more than good intentions, education, art or protest but instead grounded consistent mutual aid and material action. In the end DPS attempts to use hope to soothe the pain of circumstance without dulling the rage felt toward the underlying reasons for those conditions.

Sardonyx is one of my favorite posse cuts from a Backwoodz Studioz project. These four guys (Elucid, woods, Quelle Chris, Pink Siifu) are some of the best in the game right now, in my opinion
